I apologize for the lack of posting/checking & commenting. The past week or so has been very full, with not much computer time…or sleep time for that matter. Plus, my days have been busy with long commutes to and from K-Dot on a daily basis, and marking accounting exams. Not much fodder for posting. While there IS accounting humour, you likely wouldn’t get it. You can be thankful for that, and that you’re not a geek like me.
One thing I’ve been pondering a lot on my daily drives is baby names. Baby boy names in particular. We haven’t found "the one" yet, though our girl name choice is signed, sealed and delivered. Which means we probably won’t have a girl.
Amanda lent me her baby name book, but I haven’t had much time to sit and go through it. The volume of options is a little overwhelming. Once the summer comes to an end and life slows down, I will have more time (ha!) to look through it. In the meantime, I have been just asking everyone for suggestions. Which leads me to this post.
For the record, I am not going to share our girl’s name on here. The main one being that someone might make a negative comment, and I’m a little sensitive right now. Plus, it can be part of the surprise. Except it’s likely a boy, so then it will remain a mystery.
Hit me with your boy’s name suggestions. We’re into traditional/biblical/non-made-up names.
There are some great traditional names that are not an option, for various reasons:
Matthew, Graham and Nathan: we already have those in our house.
Isaiah, Caleb and Jacob: we love these names…but so did Honey’s brother & sister when they named their children.
Benjamin (we know 2 really cute Ben’s, and that would be too much pressure for a little guy to live up to)
Other than that…fire away. I promise not to make any negative comments about your suggestions…I just really need some input. I like to be organized…and finding THE name we like for a boy will help this crazy pregnancy feel somewhat organized.
Oh, and if you weren’t part of the original baby pool I posted, and want to be added to my spreadsheet (spreadsheets make me happy!), I copied that post down below. Guess away. Just think of the glory you would receive if you won the baby pool AND got credit for naming our baby.
Time for a Baby pool
I’ve had a few requests about a baby pool, so I figured today was a good as day as any. I know that these usually involve money, but I’m not about to start a PayPal account in order to collect your $2 coins.
My due date is October 21st, but I’ll be induced early again. I have ginormous babies. She hasn’t told me the exact date, so you can still guess that. I was pretty nauseous with Graham, not very much with Nathan, and worse than the 2 combined this time. Don’t know if that really means anything.
Give me your guesses! Date, Time, Boy/Girl, weight, length. I’ll put everyone’s guesses on a spreadsheet (I love spreadsheets). The winner will get…a post announcing their winning guess. What else could you ask for? Throw in some name suggestions while you’re at it – we’re having a hard time this time, especially for boys’ names. And if you don’t normally comment – here’s your chance! I love this stuff.
**UPDATE**
I didn’t realize that a post announcing the winning guess would bring out such a competitive streak
Here are some more deets: Matthew was about 8 1/2 pounds at birth (around his due date)
I was 9lbs 15oz…two weeks overdue (my poor Mommy)
Graham was 9lbs 12oz…on his due date (poor me)
Nathan was 8lbs 4oz…ten days early (came out in 2 contractions)
And apparently, babies tend to get even bigger, hence another early induction plan. As for the sex of the baby, I have no clue. We have an ultrasound on May 24th, but they don’t tell us here. I was tempted to go to another city to find out, but Matthew really wants the surprise. He wants the surprise more than I want to plan (if that’s possible), so we’ll wait until the baby arrives. Hope that satisfies the curiosity. K
eep the guesses coming…and yes, you can revise them if you want to WIN.

Daniel is one of my favourites but not Ryan’s so that’s why I can share it; however, we have two other names we like but are keeping those to ourselves just in case we need them one day!
Me again ~ I also love, love, love the name Isaac. And the reason Ryan doesn’t want Daniel or Isaac is b/c he likes one syllable first names. But if we ever had a girl, it would probably be about three syllables. Go figure.
For boys I love Noah, Jake, Luke & Evan. Those would be our top choices should we ever have a boy.
Good luck!
How about Westley? No?
Normally with baby names, I have to get all up in everyone’s business because I HATE all the stupid made-up cutesy names people are imposing upon their poor poor children these days. But you? I have complete faith in. Whatever you pick will be just perfect, boy or girl.
How about Braeden?
Graham, Nathan and Lukas? Bradley? Callum? Noland? Joel? Owen? Joseph? Paul?
I really like Callan, Talan, Noland, Donovan, Kale….
ok, here’s my list. Don’t hesitate to ask me for more! I’m pretty bent on naming your unborn child
Aaron
James
Ethan
Levi
Simeon
Luke
Reuben
You know, if you played your cards right, the dykstra clan could have their very own 12 tribes of Israel.
How about Nebucudnezzer (except for spelled properly) or Shadrack? I have a hard enough time naming stuffed animals. Good luck coming up with a name for a real-live person.
We had a lot of trouble with boy names too. We had the girl name all picked out and everything and then found out we were having a boy, Ian James. Then, oh the agony of finding another boy name for our second. I think we nailed down his name about a week before he was born, Jayden Robert. I very much needed the meaning of the names to be good so even if I liked the sound of a name, if I didn’t like the meaning, out it went. Here are some that made our short list: Daniel, Nathaniel (I understand you probably won’t use that one), Joel, Joseph. I also like James (hence Ian’s middle name), Paul, Adam. I like biblical type names too. Good luck, your baby’s name will be perfect for him/her I’m sure.
I’m so bad at this! I had a hard enough time deciding what to name our next little munch…we’re the types that name our baby BEFORE it comes out!
None of these boy names are the ‘one’ we are going to use (this time anyway!), but I’m fond of them…Caleb/Kaleb, Cale/Kale, Isaac, Joshua (Josh). Actually, I think out of these Josh would go really good with all your other boys’ names (your hubby’s too!).
After taking out the ones you can’t use I like Daniel, Joshua, Stephen, Joel, Alexander, Andrew, Jonathan. Boys names are fun!
Hi Angela, I have been meaning to leave a message for a while but time keeps butting in.. You look great I can’t believe you are 30 weeks.. What about the names Josiah or Solomon.. I hope you stay well… Many Blessings
Me again.Sorry I didn’t spell your name correctly… I have a few girlfriends with the same name and only 1 L.. Again sorry, its one of my pet hates so feel free to fix it if you can!!
Sam(uel)

Well, I really like the names Ethan and Tyler!! You are free to use them if you like them. But I guess you might not want an Ethan as well as Nathan.
There are lots of other boys names that were on our list, I am happy to share them!
Conner
Mitchell
Riley
Dylan
Cullen
Hunter
Zachary
Logan
Thomas
Finlay
Cody
Austin
Oh my lord. Name him John.
I come up blank everytime. Good thing we’re done having baby boys!
How about Frank, Will, Harold, Leonard…
No? what’s wrong with those???
LOL, I like surprises too so I’ll be no help here – plus I just finished doing the same accounting stuff you were doing – I would GET the humour
Signed,
A fellow geek
I love Noah and Jonah. There’s my 2 cents.
I love the name Mckenzie. My sons name is Colton and I still love it. Kade, or Aiden. Jack is great as well. I remember someone telling me that the name should sound great when there one years old, and proffesional when there 30 and going to a job interview.
“This is my baby Kade Dykstra”
Or
Hi there Im Kade Dysktra Im here for the position of City Mayor.
My favorite boys name would have to be Scott Stuart……that is what my son’s name is!
My favorites are Luke (my bro), Levi (my nephew), Logan, Aiden, Asher, Joel and Andrew (Drew).
I have already said that I think this one is a girl but, you ARE requesting boys name suggestions. Luke is one that we were considering. Donovan thought this was perfect as he would also be able to use the line from Star Wars: Luke…I am your father (I know, I know…I married him). I also love the name Logan which goes nicely with both Graham and Nathan. Whatever you choose will be great, but you’re having a girl:)
I really like the name Tyler and it goes really well with Graham and Nathan.
I also love Isaac. It’s a pretty cool name.
Can’t wait for the baby to be here, i’m soo excited!
Levi. Definitely Levi.
PS. If you have a boy, we might use your girl name. Is that okay?
Well I think you’ve read all these already and might not even see my suggestion, ugh and ugh again for lack of internet! But I met a boy once named Jair. I do believe it’s biblical and something about it struck me when I said Jair Dykstra in my head. I have no idea what kind of middle name goes with it though! (It’s spelt like it sounds in my opinion, but it would be pronounced like chair if there’s any confusion.)
Jair?… that’s the coolest name i’ve heard all day!
You are having a girl.
LEVI
JACKSON
BRADEN
DYLAN
