Yesterday morning started off superbly. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and the kids’ eyes were looking much better. My previous post had garnered so very many sweet comments, both from regulars and some new de-lurkers. I even had a couple of new comments on my Scrapblog wishing me luck on the contest. I was feeling happy.
I thought all of the well-wishes might be a sign of more goodness to come. The draw for the BlogHer contest was yesterday and I anxiously awaited the announcement of the winner. I kept checking and checking (and checking and checking) but no news was forthcoming. In the midst of refreshing my screen I ran errands and got the house cleaned for my Dad’s stopover last night. Oh yeah. And changed a few of Nathan’s diapers…he had explosive diarrhea. Pure liquid. A funky colour. Didn’t smell so hot either.
I had phone calls, twitters and emails from people wondering if I had won. No news is good news, right? I kept checking, and then after dinner, there was an announcement!
It wasn’t me.
While sitting on the deck after I got the news, Honey told me that if I flew out of Spokane or Bellingham, it would likely not cost very much to get to Chicago. He then turns to me and says, “If you really want to go, you should go.”
I did a quick search, but it seems to be a lot more than I can justify spending. Then there are the conference and boarding costs. I would also need a roommate, but I think everyone already has that covered. Unless there is some generous soul who wants to sponsor me?
No? It was worth a try. I guess there’s always next year.
Besides, if I left I’d be looking at this as I drove away. The kids sure know how to pull at the heart strings.
Guess I’ll just have to go to the beach next weekend and soak up the sun instead. Poor me.

Thank your funny kids for making me laugh about something that’s really sad.

sun? Hate to burst your bubble but have you been outside yet today? Maybe you’ll just have to have some friends visit you and lick your wounds for you.

That was a great post Angella, I love how you used your kids fabulous expressions to animate it!
Sorry to hear you couldn’t go, I know how much you wanted to.

Too bad. Can we start clicking now for next year? The pictures went perfectly with your post! The “boo hoo” one is so cute!

I’m really sorry you missed out, Ange
I really wanted you to go. I did my fair share of clicking.
But I have to say, your post made me smile with all the pictures illustrating the story!!! Brilliant

Oh no! I wanted you to win.
And sorry about the explosive diarrhea… that adds insult to injury.

The pictures of the kids are perfect though! Cute cute cute!
And you are right you would miss them LOTS!

Just think not everyone has a beach near where they live, so you are lucky that you get to go to the beach! Was that enough of a pick you up?
[Reply]
Bummer! I’m have a feeling you’ll be there next year though! And now you have a lot more time to prepare yourself to leave your cute kids for the weekend you’ll be away for it

Shucks. I was clicking for you. Enjoy your weekend all the same.

I guessing I didn’t win either, bummer! Part of me is relieved … I am not sure I am ready to appear in person.

Total bummer about the contest.
I agree. Hope the conference next year is more West Coast!
Enjoy the beach.

Sorry to hear you didn’t win. The pictures are fabulous, you certainly have a talent. Maybe next year…

What a crack up the pictures are GREAT. Am sad that you didn’t win, I even got the girls to cross their cute little finger and toes….

Those pictures are the best! Too bad you didn’t win. I even clicked a few times for you, on more than one occassion.

I’m sorry you didn’t win! But at least you have three sweet faces to look at to help you feel better. (Uh, when you’re not dealing with gross diapers, that is. I hope that gets better soon!)
