Action Packed

So, I was sick. For over a week and it was awful and I felt like I might be a (completely inactive) zombie and OH MY WORD I kind of wanted to bounce back from that week (plus) of drooling sleeping on the couch and jump back into this thing called Life.

And so I did.

Friday night was the Festival of Lights. We live in a small town that has every quirk that you might expect from a town this size but it also has an extra share of Awesome and, yeah. You could not pay me to live in my home town up North (Prince Rupert, holla!) but I am so glad that Matthew brought me to the Land of Summer. It is Winter, yes, but this town is something you read about and wonder if it could really exist. I’m here to tell you that it does.

The Festival of Lights is an annual event where Main Street is shut down to traffic and vendors set up booths and everyone converges to eat roasted chestnuts and mini donuts and cotton candy as they count down to when the lights are turned on.

3…2…1…

Lights!

(I love it here.)

Cotton candy! Because sugar really is that spectacular. So is Nathan, for the record.

Saturday consisted of ballet for the first time in three weeks. Ballet! Tutus!

I hope that she’s in ballet until she’s twenty. I know that I’ll never tire of watching her.

On Saturday afternoon we ventured as a family to see Tangled. In 3D. With glasses, of course.

That photo makes me smile the Stupid Smile.

Sunday was church and Sunday School and Our Annual Family Photo (still processing/deciding on our favorite, etcetera) and Christmas baking…

(Whipped shortbread. You need to make it. I’m not even kidding.)

I strung 50,000 lights (or so) and we decorated the tree and, well. CHRISTMAS IS COMING.

Our second tree will be decorated tomorrow. Yes, we have two trees. Because we’re ridiculous.

I’m still high on the I’M NOT SICK ANYMORE vibe and that’s super because I have plotted out the month of December and The Holiday Fairy kind of threw up all over my day planner. All I have to say to that is bring it.

December is going to be fifty shades of awesome.

  3. I’m glad you are feeling better – what a horrible time you’ve had lately. It’s lovely that you’ve had some other nice things to make up for it. Love the photo of the lights coming on, what an awesome night that must be in your town every year!

It really is a lot of fun. The stores are all open late and the food vendors are all out and you run into friends and, yeah. It’s a highlight. :)

  5. Oh that movie photo is classic – not only are the glassed hilarious but the expressions on their faces!

We went to a 3D Imax last week and when Jay put his glasses on I about peed my pants laughing.

And speaking of whipped shortbread, Jay makes the bestest ever. I never liked shortbread until I had his!

Almost time to get out the snowmen at Chez Lahti!

  6. Yay for feeling better!

I love Christmas stuff. The time seems to fly by though. I wish we had longer to linger in all the good cheer. And why do I get my handmade inspirations right before the holidays when there is no time to execute?

The kids are adorable as always.

  7. YAY for not being sick anymore! And for two trees!! Noah will be envious. He loved having two trees the one winter we were house-sitting at my in-laws’ ginormous two-tree-worthy house.

You couldn’t pay me to live in Terrace (or PR) either. Although, I really liked spending a couple hours in PR at Smiles or the Coast Hotel for eating fresh seafood while looking out at the ocean. I miss the ocean. I will NEVER miss NW BC. (And I’m sure you never will either.) :)

  11. Vahid’s mom is bringing us a tree and I am EXCITED! I would be more excited if I had ornaments but I’ll have a tree! Yes!

(I should note that I am so excited for a real tree because we only had fake ones since I was 11 or so because my dog kept peeing on the tree to mark his territory. That was not the funnest year.)
