Ten years ago today, I woke up as a single woman for the very last time.
Before I knew it my basement suite was filled with friends and family. My Dad arrived with the Breakfast Of Champions. I am not a Lover of Donuts but the “White-Powdered-Cake Donuts”? Love. My Daddy knows me well.
Before I knew it, I was ready to roll. It was time for photos.
My sister Mel, me, and our Mom.
We all headed outside.
Me and my Daddy.
I think I know which parent I look like.
Then it was time to leave.
I got into the white SUV we had rented.
This is one of my most favorite photos of myself. Ever.
While I was busy being a Princess, a certain young lad named Matthew was getting ready. WHO IS THIS YOUNG PUNK?
That would be the artist currently known as Honey.
In the meantime, I was heading to the church. Thanks to my Dad/Chauffeur/Bodyguard/Secret Service Agent.
I made it to the church in time.
I walked up the aisle to a teary Matthew. I whispered that he was not allowed to cry or I would be a weepy mess. We both sucked it up, sniffling and red-eyed.
Next thing I knew, we got to make out in front of everyone.
We were announced as Mr. and Mrs. Dykstra.
We had a bunch of photos taken by the “Professional Photographer”, most of which I dislike. This one is not so bad.
Then we went to the reception and had a lovely dinner.
We cut cake. And showed it to the crowd.
I’m classy like that.
Apparently Honey found my crassness to be hot.
It was (and IS) glorious.
Happy tenth anniversary, Honey! I tell you this all the time but it needs to be stated yet again: You are the biggest blessing that God has ever given to me.
Together, we have been blessed with the three most amazing children that this planet has ever seen. I look at them and I look at you and I wonder how I managed to reap such abundant joy.
I love you more with each passing minute and that is not even an exaggeration. You make me feel like I am the most valuable woman on the planet. To you, at least, which is all that truly matters.
You are my best friend, my love, my other half.
Here’s to eternity together.

Happy Anniversary, you love birds!!!! Wow, that makes getting married look like there must actually be some FUN to counterbalance all the stress! My wedding is July 17 – just 58 days to go! Not that I’m counting. Ok, fine, I am, but only since 130 days… what? Seriously, though, it’s really inspiring for me to see how happy you guys looked on your big day and then to see ten years later how your little family has grown into a five-strong clan of awesomeness.
I hope my life will be very similar to yours in ten years! Thanks for sharing your journey with us. The number of divorces in the world absolutely breaks my heart, so it does us all a lot of good to watch one girl and guy who are making it work day by day, year after year.
