That About Sums It Up

I have a severe case of the after-Christmas-blahs.

It happens every year. I know it is coming and I expect it. The days leading up to Christmas are special, magical and full of anticipation. Christmas arrives and it is all that you hoped it would be.

Then it is over.

There is a lull that happens and you do not know quite what to do with yourself.

I thought that I would do a Year In Review Post. At first I was just planning to do photos, but then I had a grand idea. I would include links! And blurbs! And videos!

I got about one-third of the way through and came to a startling realization.

Five Years Ago Today

On December 28, 2002, I was very largely pregnant and awfully uncomfortable. An additional seventy-five pounds can wreak havoc on a body.

Matthew was playing in a basketball tournament. I had gone to the first game but could not find a sitting or standing position that would allow me any relief from my discomfort. He went to his second game and I lay on the couch at home.

He called me after the game was done and asked if he should pick up a movie. That sounded absolutely perfect to me. I hung up the phone and waddled off to the bathroom. I saw something strange, but all of my prenatal classes and pregnancy reading had prepared me for this. I had some “show” which meant that things were starting to loosen up in my nether-regions. No contractions yet, but they followed a short while later.

I quickly called Matthew back to tell him that we may not need a movie after all. While he sped home, I stood alone in the kitchen. What we had been praying and preparing for was about to happen. We took classes, talked to many who had gone the road before us, and had an amazing doctor. We were as prepared as we could ever be.

I burst into tears.

I HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS ABOUT TO HAPPEN.

The Hall Of Justice

We did our turkey yesterday (Boxing Day). Do not fear; we did not suffer a turkey-free Christmas Day; we spent it with family friends. Yesterday was the day that it worked to have Matthew’s brother and his family over so we went with it.

While most of the human race was either fighting crowds at the mall or trying to wake up from their tryptophan coma…I was in the process of creating our own turkey dinner EXTRAVAGANZA!

OK. Maybe not an extravaganza…but it was pretty good, even if I do say so myself. Turkey, casserole(s) and homemade buns, to name a few goodies. I even cracked out our china (Only used ONCE before) and we acted like the grown-ups we are supposed to be.

Riiiiiiight.

While I was preparing dinner and Matthew was keeping the kids out of my hair playing with the kids, he told me to grab my camera and come see what the boys had done.

I quickly slapped the photo onto Flickr. The comment from LVGurl made me laugh out loud (Not LOL. I do not LOL. But I do laugh out loud.) Her comment is what inspired the title.

How can you tell that I have TWO BOYS?

The Enhanced Nativity Scene

Alternate titles welcome.  Or just feel free to giggle.

Christmas Smackdown

Hi everyone! This is your friendly neighborhood Graham reporting for duty.

Were you as spoiled as we were?

Mommy and Daddy tried to tone down the loot since our Grandma and Grandpa spoiled us when we went there a couple of weeks ago. Mommy is a sucker sweetie, however, and bought me the costume I have been pestering asking her for since October.

TMNT Costume!

I love the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I think I might just be one when I grow up.

We’re wearing the new Cars pajamas we got on Christmas Eve. It’s our family tradition to open one gift, and it’s always a new set of jammies.

They also got us new books to read and some new colouring stuff.

Books and crayons!

Mommy mentioned something about something called a “lid” and that it was supposed to keep the marker from “drying out”…and that we seemed to throw lids to the wind with reckless abandon.

Whatever, Mom.

Who Made This Big Mess?

I was not planning on posting again until after Christmas, but something happened yesterday that requires sharing. I called my Mom to tell her about it, and even emailed her some photos. While (miracle upon miracles) my Mom knows how to check my site, she could not figure out how to open the attached photos.

Thus, a post was born.

For anyone new around these parts, I have a daughter. Her name is Emily but we often refer to her as Miss Emily.

Miss Emily

Her name just screams to have a Miss placed in front of it. She is also destined to have a bit of The Princess Syndrome as she is a) the baby of the family and b) the only girl. The teenage years are going to be AWESOME. I can feel it.

This is assuming that we survive the Terrible Twos.
