This Christmas it will be two years since Matthew bought me my sweet Canon Rebel XT DSLR. He was so thoughtful when he bought it that he even bought me a guide that was written for my exact camera. He knew that I wanted to learn more about manual photography and this book walks you through it step by step.

The book has gathered dust because I keep having babies. Throw in work and the general chaos that is life with three kidlets and I have a hard enough time keeping up with things like cleaning the toilets (I’m pretty sure I cleaned them last weekend). Add in other hobbies like this here site and the occasional foray into the world of pretty paper and learning the manual functions of my camera has just not happened.

But all of that has changed!

My Girl

I hope my post about the fire did not come across the wrong way. I was not trying to bring anyone down or blow it out of proportion. Yes, it was scary, but we were/are all fine. I am not one to go to that place where I dwell on the bad things that could have happened. Because they didn’t happen. I choose to look at the positive side of these situations and use them to teach me to be thankful in all things.

Onwards! There is other news around here! Good news!

(No, I’m not pregnant. Not only has that ship sailed; we fired a torpedo and blew it to smithereens.)

Remembering Our House Fire

Date: Tuesday August 28, 2007

Two years ago today we had a house fire.

I am so very thankful that I had started blogging a few weeks before (that old blog that I deleted, but kept copies of). I think that if I had not documented the events of that night, and the miracles that happened, that the memories would fade like memories are prone to do.

I can not read the posts written by myself and Matthew without crying. I can get so caught up in the day to day chaos that I forget to be thankful. Thankful that we are alive and well. Thankful that we could have lost so much, and yet gained even more. Thankful for the amazing friends we have and the wonderful community we live in.

Following are the posts that we wrote about the fire.

Family Photo Shoot

Nathan’s party went well. Some people were busy and some had things come up last minute so the numbers were lower than normal. It turned out for the best, as cold winds blew in and brought some dark clouds along for the ride. We moved the party inside.

The kids had fun running laps throughout the house and it MIGHT HAVE BEEN A LITTLE LOUD. In hindsight I am thankful for the noise.

Quiet kids can do a whole lot more damage than noisy kids. Can I get an amen?

We were all gussied up and asked Matthew’s Dad to take a family photo (or ten) of us. This is a rare and exciting event! We usually only get a family shot taken for our Christmas cards. Two family photos in one year? Unbelievable.

The problem is that I am horrible at deciding which photographs should get printed and/or hung on the wall. I am asking for your humble opinions.

Nathan Is Three!

Sweet, sweet Nathan.

I really want to do a warm and gushy post for you. I do. Because I feel all warm and…gushy. Except? The words are not coming easily. Instead I will do my best to describe you at this stage in your life.

You are three. I can hardly believe it. It may sound like a cliche, but I remember the day you were born so very clearly. Maybe because I opted to go drug-free and you came shooting out so dang quickly. The Ring of Fire is a feeling that one never forgets.

You are one really neat little dude. You have had that little *sparkle* in your eye since day one and have always given me a run for my money. You have loads of personality, and have never lacked the ability to show it.
